Checking needle lift senderG80
Checking needle lift sender -G80-
The needle lift sender signal is required to determine the commencement of injection. If it fails, the commencement of injection switches to open-loop control (depending on engine speed and load). During normal operation, the commencement of injection is controlled by a closed-loop function (depending on engine speed, load and temperature).
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Hand multimeter -V.A.G 1526C- or multimeter -V.A.G 1715-
t  Adapter set -V.A.G 1594C-
t  Adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31-
t  Current flow diagram
Test procedure

–  Disconnect 2-pin connector for needle lift sender -G80--arrow-.
  N23-0371
–  Measure resistance between connector contacts.
Specification: 80.0…120.0 Ω
If the specification is not achieved:
–  Renew No. 3 cylinder injector with needle lift sender -G80- → Item.
If the specification is attained:
  V96-1216
–  Connect adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- to control unit wiring harness. The engine control unit remains disconnected.
  N01-0369
–  Check wiring between adapter cable, 121-pin -V.A.G 1598/31- and connector for open circuit referring to current flow diagram. Contact 1 + socket 109 Contact 2 + socket 101.
Cable resistance: max. 1.5 Ω.
–  Also check wiring for short to one another, short to vehicle earth and short to battery positive.
Specification: ∞ Ω.
If no fault in lines is detected:
–  Renew engine control unit → Chapter.
