Removing and installing selector lever handle
Brief description
Different handles may be installed depending on model.
It is possible with all knobs that the button is pressed into the knob. Never install handle with button pressed in.
Handle is removed together with selector cover.
Removing:
–  Shift selector lever to position „D“.
   
Handle with pushbutton on side:
–  First pull button far enough out of knob that a small gap is visible between knob and button. Button locks when released.
–  Hold button in this position with a cable tie or wire to prevent it from being pressed in.

Handle with front pushbutton:
Button does not need to be pulled out by hand. Button automatically engages in installation position -arrow- when handle is pulled off.

Continuation for all handles:
–  Unclip cover.
–  Pull connector from gearshift cover.
–  Push sleeve upwards to release knob.
–  Pull handle off selector lever without pressing button.
  Note
Do not continue to press button after removal, otherwise it will no longer be possible to install handle.
Installing
–  Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
l  Selector lever is in position „D“.

Handle with pushbutton on side:
l  Button in handle is pulled out and secured against being pressed in.

Handle with front pushbutton:
l  Pushbutton is in installation position -arrow-.
If the pushbutton was pressed by mistake, the installation position can be restored.
–  Move pushbutton to installation position → Chapter.
  Note
  N34-10549
New handle is supplied with installation guard. Do not remove guard until just before installing. To remove, pull it out.
Handle with front pushbutton
If pushbutton is pressed inadvertently, it is possible to reestablish installation position. To do this, push installation guard fully in whilst button is pressed, release button and pull installation guard out again. Pushbutton engages in installation position.
Continuation for all handles
–  Push handle completely onto selector lever and lock.
–  Push sleeve downwards to lock.
–  After installation, press button in selector lever grip.
  Note
If not installed correctly, pushbutton remains inserted in handle after being pressed. If this has happened, handle will have to be installed again. To do this, pull handle off selector lever, move button into installation position using installation guard and install handle again.
Continue installation in reverse order of removal.
