Installing > < Removing and installing subframe

Removing
Removing
–  Remove wheel.
–  Remove noise insulation.
–  Mark positions of bolts securing swivel joint on suspension link.
   
–  Remove bolts -arrows-.
–  Unbolt drive shaft from gearbox flange shaft.
–  Secure drive shaft to body with wire.
The drive shaft must not hang down!
–  Pull wheel bearing housing with swivel joint out of suspension link.

–  Swivel suspension strut outwards and support with, e.g., wooden block -1-.
  S40-0161
–  Remove bolts -1- and -2- and remove pendulum support.
–  Remove bolts -5- for steering box.
–  Remove coupling rod nut -7- from anti-roll bar.
–  For TDI engines, also remove bolts -6- for exhaust system.
–  Position engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- under subframe with -V.A.G 1359/2-.
–  Remove bolts -3- and -4- for subframe.
–  Lower subframe using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.
