Deactivating front passenger's airbag

The passenger side airbag unit can be disabled to allow the use of a child seat with a child's back towards direction of travel. As soon as the child's seat is no longer required then the airbag should be returned to a functioning condition.

The repair kit 1H0 998 521 B is required for the conversion.

Note:

  • ◆ Obtain radio unit code before disconnecting battery.
Warning!
Disconnect battery earth strap before working on the electrical system.
Warning!
The mechanic must electro statically discharge him/herself before the airbag system is touched. This is done by touching an earthed metal object such as water pipe, heater pipe or metal support etc.

The front passenger's airbag must be removed for this.

In Germany, the blocking (deactivating) or reactivation of the system must be checked by an authorised test centre, for example the TÜV and confirmed with an entry in the vehicle documents.
