Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with
         ▸ 07.93: Cable V.A.G 1551/1
         08.93 ▸: Cable V.A.G 1551/3
  • ◆ Ignition tester V.A.G 1767 or V.A.G 1367 with HT pick-up clamp V.A.G 1367/8

Check conditions

  • ● Engine oil temperature min. 80 °C
  • ● No faults stored in fault memory
    , interrogating fault memory

Test sequence

  • ‒ → Connect ignition tester V.A.G 1767 or ignition tester V.A.G 1367 with HT pick-up clamp V.A.G 1367/8.
  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit (address word 01); carry out selection at idling.

  • ‒ Input 04 for "Initiate basic setting" and confirm with Q.

  • ‒ Check ignition timing.
         Specification: 2...7 ° before TDC1)

With stroboscope:

  • ‒ → Direct at ignition timing notch.
  • ‒ If necessary adjust ignition timing by turning distributor.
         Adjusting figure: 5±1 ° before TDC1)

     1)     Up-to-date specifications:

=> Exhaust emissions test binder

  • ‒ Press ⇒ key.
  • ‒ Input 06 for "End output" and confirm with Q.
