Servicing valve gear
Checking and adjusting valve clearance
Engine Codes: DX and KT▸7/85, JH▸7/87, EG, JJ
Tappets with shim.
Notes:
-
◆ The valve clearances should be checked and adjusted with engine warm: coolant temperature above 35 °C and cylinder head and hand warm.
-
◆ The valve clearance is adjusted using shims of varying thickness (3.00...4.25).
-
◆ Specified clearances, warm:
Inlet valve: 0.20...0.30 mm
Exhaust valve: 0.40...0.50 mm
-
◆ After cylinder head repairs valve clearance is to be adjusted with engine cold.
Specified clearances, cold:
Inlet valve: 0.15...0.25 mm
Exhaust valve: 0.35...0.45 mm
Notes:
-
◆ When repairs such as renewal and grinding of valves or renewal of the camshaft have been carried out on the cylinder head, the valve clearance must be checked and adjusted with engine warm after approx. 1000 km.
-
◆ The thickness of the adjusting shims is etched on underside. When installing shims, ensure that this marking is facing downward, into the tappet. Used shims can be installed again provided that they are not damaged.
-
◆ Store the shims in sorting tray 10-212.
Adjusting sequence:
-
‒ Rotate crankshaft until cams of cylinder to be adjusted point upward at similar angles.
